Descrição: The chondroitin N-acetylgalactosaminyltransferase family includes Beta-1,4-GalNAc-T, Beta-1,4-GalNAc-T2, Beta-1,4-GalNAc-T3 and Beta-1,4-GalNAc-T4. The Beta-1,4-GalNAc-T protein consists of a short N-terminal residue, a transmembrane region and a long C-terminal residue, which includes a catalytic domain and localizes to the Golgi apparatus. Beta-1,4-GalNAc-T utilizes simple ganglioside GM3 as a substrate for more complex gangliosides GM2, GM1 and GD1a. Beta-1,4-GalNAc-T is expressed in normal brain tissues and in various malignant transformed cells, such as malignant melanoma, neuroblastoma and adult T cell leukemia. Mice lacking the Beta-1,4-GalNAc-T protein develop significant and progressive behavioral neuropathies, including deficits in reflexes, strength, coordination and balance. Beta-1,4-GalNAc-T is a potential molecular marker for detecting melanoma cells and monitoring tumor progression.

Descrição: Agarose is a natural polysaccharide isolated from agar or agar-bearing marine algae. Its physical and chemical properties are particularly suited for use as a gel medium for diffusion and electrokinetic movement of biomolecules. Agarose is essentially biologically inert and forms relatively clear, transparent gels. Agarose based gels offer several advantages: High gel strength permits use of low concentrations. The macroporous nature of the gels allows rapid diffusion of high molecular weight molecules. Agarose is Non-toxic. Agarose gels are thermally reversible facilitating sample recovery. Staining and destaining may be done rapidly with minimal background. Because agarose forms macroporous gels that are electrically nonionic, it is an excellent medium for Isoelectric Focusing (IEF). Talin interacts with at least two other proteins that are localized at adhesion plaques, vinculin and integrin. Talin and vinculin have been shown to interact with each other and both have been proposed to be involved in generating the transmembrane connection, between the extracellular matrix and the cytoskeleton, that occurs at adhesion plaques. At physiological ionic strength, talin is an elongate, flexible, monomeric protein with the ability to self-associate into dimers at higher protein concentrations.
